Anthropic has formally granted the European Commission access to its powerful Claude Mythos Preview cybersecurity-focused AI model. The invitation followed a meeting in San Francisco, though the EU must still establish a secure mechanism to access the model safely.

Unveiled in April, Mythos outperformed most humans at identifying and exploiting cybersecurity vulnerabilities, sparking fears of large-scale cyberattacks if it fell into the hands of adversaries. European authorities had been excluded from accessing the cutting-edge technology for weeks, prompting urgent calls from European politicians and officials for access, alongside demands for Europe to develop its own equivalent.

A spokesperson for the Commission welcomed the news, describing it as vital for understanding emerging risks.
