8 European countries sceptical of Commission's age-check app

EU member states are viewing the European Commission's new age-verification app with scepticism. The app is intended to help governments implement age checks for illegal content, such as pornography, and potentially social media. However, a Politico survey found significant reluctance to adopt the tool, with many nations preferring their own national solutions.

France, Ireland, and Poland have indicated a preference for existing domestic applications, while Germany and Finland have stated they are not actively implementing the Commission's software. The Netherlands is currently assessing the app's security and privacy credentials.

Greece suggested it would comply if the app were mandated, but considers a single, compulsory bloc-wide application unlikely.
