TikTok CEO meets top EU policymakers amidst increasing concerns

TikTok Chief Executive Shou Zi Chew held talks in Brussels on Tuesday with Vice-Presidents Margrethe Vestager and Vera Jourova, the Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson and the Commissioner for justice Didier Reynders. The agenda is likely to include issues such as privacy, content regulation and child safety online. A report by Reuters confirmed the meeting focused on TikTok's preparations for compliance with the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act. The meeting also included a discussion around EU General Data Protection Regulation compliance, specifically relating to "matters of privacy and data transfer obligations with a reference to the recent press reporting on aggressive data harvesting and surveillance in the US."
