ICO action against BA and Marriott highlight importance of cybersecurity

It is evident from reading the recent monetary penalty notices imposed on British Airways and the hotel chain Marriott International that the ICO places critical importance on following best practice cybersecurity guidance.  The ICO pointed to recommendations from the UK's National Cyber Security Centre and the US National Institute of Standards and Technology to highlight where BA and Marriott had failed to implement appropriate controls.
