The Open Rights Group publishes an article examining the government's intent on weakening privacy and regulating technology are conflicting policies that risk undermining each other. "Regulating the tech industry depends on content regulation, data protection and competition." While the Online Safety Bill is directed at problematic content, the root of Big Tech's power is how they control personal data exploitation. Consequently, supporters of the Online Safety Bill should be concerned about the government's data protection consultation as it threatens the entire strategy to reign in technology companies.
