The Online Safety Bill and age verification

As part of the government's pledge to make the UK the safest place to be online, the draft Online Safety Bill includes mandatory age verification on all sites with user-to-user content or communication, except those considered 'child safe'. Verification could take the form of direct age checks linked to a passport or credit card, or it could involve some form of age assurance using other information to establish the user's age, such as metadata, facial recognition, or behavioural profiling. There are clear privacy implications either way.
