A new report by Open Rights Group (ORG) raises serious concerns about the privacy and security of canvassing applications used by UK political parties. The report highlightis a lack of transparency regarding data usage, prompting questions about potential unlawful practices.
The study examined apps from the Conservative, Labour, and Liberal Democrat parties, uncovering significant issues with each.
Labour’s Reach, Doorstep, and Contact Creator apps were found linked to Experian's infrastructure, raising concerns about data-sharing practices. The Liberal Democrats’ MiniVan app was shown to have security vulnerabilities, and the Conservatives’ Share2Win app posed privacy risks due to location tracking and security flaws. All parties appear to depend heavily on international commercial entities for digital campaigning.
