ORG condemns the Data Rights Bill and Bill of Rights

The Open Rights Group condemns the government's plans to undermine UK data protection and human rights laws. The article refers to the Bill of Rights as a thinly veiled attempt to legitimise their illegal activities by claiming the collection and storage of personal data is both 'necessary' and 'in the public interest' because the government says so—not because they are. At the same time, the Data Reform Bill will give the government the power to undermine data rights by introducing purpose-built lawful grounds to legalise unlawful processing. The article also criticises proposals to diminish accountability requirements and undermine the ICO.
