OECD paper examines increasing fragmentation of cybersecurity regulations

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published a policy paper examining the increasing fragmentation of cybersecurity regulations across different jurisdictions. The document analyses the primary factors driving the regulatory divergence and details the resulting consequences for both businesses and governments. 

These impacts include inflated compliance costs, the diversion of resources away from essential cybersecurity functions, and significant barriers to effective international co-operation. In addition, the paper maps current domestic, regional, and international initiatives aimed at promoting greater regulatory coherence.

The paper's aims include promoting a shared understanding of the global cybersecurity landscape, establishing a foundation for enhanced dialogue among regulators, policymakers, and businesses, while strengthening the broader evidence base to guide future alignment.
