The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published an analysis of how people are using generative AI (Gen AI) chatbots in Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) nations. Using web traffic data, the OECD tracks unique monthly visitors to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini between February 2024 and March 2026.
The data reveals monthly chatbot usage has surged, rising from an average of 18% of the population in January 2025 to 28% by January 2026. Adoption is increasingly mainstream, with substantial recent growth driven by individuals over the age of 35, although younger demographics remain the primary users. In February 2026, over half of people aged 25 to 34 utilised these platforms, compared to just 8% of those aged 65 and older.
