NCSC calls on UK businesses to embed cyber essentials into supply chains

12/12/2025 | NCSC

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has called on UK businesses to implement robust security practices in their supply chains through the launch of a new Cyber Essentials Supply Chain Playbook. The playbook emphasises the importance of the government’s Cyber Essentials (CE) scheme as an assurance mechanism, which can be supplemented by the IASME Supplier Check tool to verify supplier certifications. Meanwhile, the NCSC confirms that businesses with a turnover below £20 million can access free cyber-liability insurance upon obtaining CE certification. The playbook outlines seven steps for incorporating CE, including assessing supply chain risks, defining security profiles, and incentivising CE adoption.
