NALC publishes data protection compliance roadmap
28/11/2025 | National Association of Local Councils
The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) has developed a data protection roadmap to help town and parish councils prepare for the introduction of Assertion 10 in the Annual Governance and Accountability Return (AGAR) from 2025-26. This new requirement places a mandate on smaller authorities to confirm that they have appropriate digital and data governance measures in place to comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA18).
The roadmap is designed to build confidence and includes practical tools such as checklists, reflective questions, and real-world examples to help councils apply the requirements to their specific context.
Training Announcement: Freevacy offers a range of independent data protection qualifications from IAPP and BCS. Our certified courses are available at foundation and practitioner levels and cover multiple legal jurisdictions, data protection operations management, and the implementation of complex privacy solutions in technical environments.
