Meta's new transparency feature explains, “Why am I seeing this ad?”

In a blog post, Meta has announced a new feature to increase transparency about the advertisements it serves users on Facebook. The "Why am I seeing this ad?" tool will provide users with information on how the company uses machine learning to deliver ads based on their activity on and off the platform. The information Meta provides will include examples and illustrations, along with links to access the Ads Preferences feature. The changes result from consulting with external privacy experts and policy stakeholders worldwide to boost transparency and demonstrate the company's commitment to the responsible use of machine learning technology. Meta said that it plans to add the feature to Instagram at a later date.
