89% of public concerned about AI using their data without consent

A recent Malwarebytes study reveals widespread public concern regarding the security of their personal data across various aspects of their lives. The survey found that 89% of people are worried about AI tools using their data without consent, and 70% feel resigned to their personal data already being accessible online. Meanwhile, 77% believe many online transactions are designed to extract their data.

Despite 87% supporting national laws for data protection, 60% feel that they will never have an effective means to protect their data. As a result of these concerns, at least 40% of people have stopped using platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and X, and 26% have ceased using fertility or period tracking apps. Furthermore, 72% are concerned about inappropriate government access to their personal data, and 50% worry about wrongful government access to their private conversations.
