DPC set to issue €8m to €11m GDPR fine to Tinder

The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has confirmed it intends to fine Match Group, the US company behind Tinder, between €8m and €11m for alleged violations of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The DPC expects to finalise its decision shortly following a draft decision issued on 9 July 2026.
The investigation focused on Tinder's user data retention policies, legal bases for processing, transparency, and compliance with data subject rights requests.
The proposed penalty is significantly lower than the €52m fine Match Group previously warned investors it could face. The Dallas-based company recorded a $9.1m provision in its financial statements for the quarter ending 30 June 2026 to cover the matter.
Match Group, however, maintains that it intends to defend against the findings vigorously.
