TikTok launches legal challenge against the DPC's €530m GDPR fine

28/05/2025 | Irish Examiner

TikTok has launched a legal challenge against the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) in the High Court in Dublin. TikTok hopes that the judicial review will overturn the DPC's decision to impose a €530 million administrative fine on the company earlier this month for EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) violations concerning the systemic, repetitive, and continuous transfer of personal data to China. Alongside the substantial financial penalty, the DPC's ruling also requires TikTok to bring its data processing operations into compliance with GDPR within six months.
