The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has now officially announced its €405 million fine against Instagram for children's privacy violations under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The decision, which marks the second-largest GDPR fine ever handed down, comprises ten penalties. Two public-by-default and contact information processing violations under Article 12(1) made up most of the total fine at €170 million. Along with the financial penalty, the DPC ordered Instagram to "bring its processing into compliance by taking a range of specified remedial actions."
