ISO and IEC publish new AI impact assessment standard

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) have published a new joint standard designed to guide organisations in conducting impact assessments for artificial intelligence (AI) systems. 

ISO/IEC 42005:2025 aims to help organisations understand how AI systems might affect individuals, groups, or society as a whole. The new standard offers several benefits, including raising stakeholder trust through transparent impact documentation, supporting responsible innovation by addressing social and ethical risks, and enhancing alignment with existing governance, risk, and compliance frameworks.
