Compliance pros survey reveals unreported data breaches commonplace

A recent survey conducted by the Compliance Institute has revealed that over 50% of compliance professionals believe that data protection rules have been breached in their organisation at some point. The survey, which polled 230 compliance professionals from Irish financial services organizations, found that almost one in five of those asked have been aware of more than one instance of a data breach situation in their organization. The survey also indicated that two-thirds of compliance experts believe certain data protection breaches go unreported to varying degrees. The fear of damaging brand reputation and being held accountable are the predominant deterrents for reporting such incidents.
