Unite fined £45,000 for PECR violations

The ICO has fined Unite (the union) £45,000 for multiple breaches of regulation 21 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (PECR), resulting in 57,665 unsolicited direct marketing calls to subscribers who were registered with the TPS, leading to a total of 27 complaints. Unite miscategorised calls by not recognising calls about life insurance constituted marketing.
