ICO reprimands South Yorkshire Police for deleting 96k pieces of body-worn video
18/08/2025 | ICO
The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has issued a formal reprimand to South Yorkshire Police (SYP) after the force deleted 96,174 pieces of body-worn video (BWV) evidence.
Following an investigation, the ICO found that SYP had not implemented appropriate technical and organisational measures for evidence security, highlighting its backup and record keeping procedures, and failure to identify relevant risks when transferring personal data between systems. The reprimand indicates that SYP violated Sections 34 (3) and 40 of Part 3 of the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA18).
