ICO reprimands Greater Manchester Police for CCTV failings

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has issued a formal reprimand to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) over CCTV failures after the force was unable to recover two hours of missing footage in response to a subject access request (SAR). Following an investigation, the ICO identified two key issues in GMP's data protection practices. These include a misunderstanding between GMP staff regarding who was responsible for conducting quality checks of retained footage, as well as a lack of internal policies and guidelines that clarify the requirements for quality checks and the responsibilities of those carrying out such tasks.
