ICO publishes Reddit monetary penalty notice

19/03/2026 | ICO

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has published the monetary penalty notice for its £14.47 million fine against Reddit. The ICO found the social media company violated Articles 5(1)(a), 6, and 8, and 35 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The breach occurred because the company failed to implement an appropriate age-assurance mechanism and did not conduct a data protection impact assessment (DPIA) to assess and mitigate the risks to children before January 2025.
