ICO publishes new smart device draft guidance

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has published new draft guidance and an accompanying blog article on consumer Internet of Things (IoT) products and services. The guidance is aimed at manufacturers and developers of smart products, including items such as smart speakers, fitness trackers, Wi-Fi-enabled fridges, and interconnected air fryers. The ICO highlights that these devices can collect considerable amounts of personal data, including sensitive information, for which manufacturers and developers have a responsibility to ensure they are designed with data protection in mind.
