ICO publishes new profiling guidance to help online platforms comply with the OSA

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has published new guidance for profiling tools for online safety. The guidance, which is primarily aimed at online platforms providing user-to-user services (where users can generate, upload, or share content that other users can then interact with), explains the data protection and privacy considerations to take into account when using profiling to meet their obligations under the Online Safety Act 2023 (OSA). The guidance also applies to any organisations using such tools for broader trust and safety reasons.
