The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has opened a consultation to help it develop content moderation guidelines. The ICO says it has a role in ensuring personal data is processed in compliance with data protection law during online content moderation. The ICO is looking for feedback in three areas:
- How content moderation solutions are developed, and in what capacity is personal data is used?
- Areas where clarification is required in the application of UK GDPR, DPA2018 and PECR relating to content moderation.
- Any other data protection challenges organisations face when they undertake content moderation.
This consultation closes on 9 June 2023.
