18/12/2025 | ICO

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), along with data protection authorities (DPAs) from Jersey, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man, have launched a joint investigation concerning a June 2025 personal data breach that compromised the data of trade union Prospect Custodian Trustees Ltd.

Prospect, a trade union with over 160,000 members in specialised fields such as science, engineering, and technology, holds personal and sensitive information about its members, including financial details, trade union membership, and demographic data.

The ICO statement clarified that the joint investigation will assess the extent of the breach and potential risks to affected individuals, evaluate the adequacy of Prospect's protective measures, review compliance with breach notification requirements, and determine whether appropriate steps were taken in response to the incident.
