ICO launches direct marketing online advice tool for small businesses

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has launched a new online tool to help small businesses ensure their direct marketing activities comply with the UK's data protection laws: the Privacy and Electronic Communication Regulations (PECR) and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The 'direct marketing advice generator' provides tailored compliance advice based on the user's specific marketing activities and covers various channels such as email, SMS, direct mail, social media, and telemarketing. By answering a series of simple questions, organisations receive relevant guidance in one place, saving them time and effort in navigating complex regulations and guidance materials. The tool aims to empower small businesses to engage in direct marketing to promote their products and services legally while respecting people's information rights and protecting their reputation.
