ICO issues reprimand to Sky Bet over cookie violation

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has issued a formal reprimand to Bonne Terre Limited, trading as Sky Betting and Gaming, for unlawfully processing individuals' personal information without consent. Between 10 January and 3 March 2023,  the company shared information with ad tech companies as soon as users accessed the SkyBet website before giving them the option to accept or reject advertising cookies in violation of Articles 5(1)(a), 6(1)(a) and 7(1) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Following an investigation, Sky Bet has made changes to its website so that visitors can reject advertising cookies.
