ICO calls political parties to improve data protection practices

The ICO has laid out how UK political parties need to improve the way they handle personal data after conducting an audit of the seven main parties parties' data protection practices. A summary of the audits, including specific actions to improve data protection transparency and compliance, is being published today. Earlier this week, the Open Rights Group submitted its response to the government's technical consultation on digital imprints. These rules will ensure that individuals can see the origin of (who paid for) a political advertisement. 

Update: both the Open Rights Group and The Register report on the revelation that the Conservative Party racially and religiously profiled 10 million people.
