The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is calling for water companies to publish sewage discharge data monthly, highlighting their legal obligation under the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR). Information Commissioner John Edwards has previously written to twelve water companies, urging greater transparency. Currently, only Yorkshire Water and South West Water have committed to this practice.
In a blog article, Warren Seddon, the Director of Freedom of Information at the ICO, stressed the need for all companies to embrace a culture of proactive transparency, warning that the ICO will hold them accountable for inaction.
