Care home director fined for refusing to respond to SAR
04/09/2025 | ICO
The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has announced that Beverley Magistrates Court has fined the director of a care home in Yorkshire £1,100, along with additional costs of £5,440, for refusing to comply with a subject access request (SAR).
Jason Blake, 56, was found to have intentionally blocked, erased, or concealed records at Bridlington Lodge Care Home to prevent a woman from accessing personal information about her father. The woman, who held a lasting power of attorney, had requested information in April 2023, including incident reports, CCTV footage, and notes related to her father's care. After Mr Blake refused to respond to the request, a complaint was made to the ICO, which launched an investigation. Mr Blake provided no explanation for his organisation's failure to respond.
