Complaint filed with Irish DPC over Microsoft’s work for IDF
05/12/2025 | ICCL
The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) has filed a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) against Microsoft, alleging that the company's operations in Ireland are facilitating unlawful data processing on behalf of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) in Gaza. The ICCL claims this processing has enabled the killing of civilians, continues to facilitate mass surveillance across the occupied Palestinian territory, and enables the illegal Israeli occupation.
The ICCL is representing Palestinian residents of Gaza and the West Bank, alongside EU citizens who communicate with individuals in the occupied territories. The complaint includes materials provided by Microsoft whistleblowers. Joe O’Brien, Executive Director of the ICCL, urged the DPC to investigate the matter urgently and use its full powers to stop the unlawful processing, stating that the violations are not abstract but have enabled real-world violence and pose a threat to the welfare and survival of the Palestinian people.
