Why upholding DSRs for data used to train LLMs is not relevant

In an article for IAPP, Tilburg University Global ICT Law professor Lokke Moerel considers the stance of EU data protection authorities (DPAs) regarding the rights of data subjects and data used to train large language models (LLMs). In the article, Moerel argues that upholding the rights to access, deletion, and correction of their personal information, as well as ensuring providers anonymise the training data in order to be able to rely on the legitimate interest basis for using this data for training purposes, presents a dilemma. Moerel asks: "If an LLM provider complies with this guidance and removes personal data from training data to the maximum extent possible, what is the relevance of DSRs in relation to the remaining training data?"
