What the CPPA appointments say about enforcement priorities & strategy

California government officials appointed their inaugural board members for the California Privacy Protection Agency on the 17th March. The five-member board will be tasked with CCPA enforcement and charting the course for the first privacy-focused regulatory body in the US. While the leadership team has been announced, questions remain on the CPPA’s primary focuses in the near and long term. IAPP Staff Writer Joe Duball explored whether the appointments themselves provide any hints about what the board’s top priorities might be. Sticking with Californian State privacy laws, the IAPP has updated its CCPA-/CPRA-Related Legislation Tracker. The latest iteration includes the five bills introduced in 2021 to amend the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act.
