The future of EU data protection and its digital market strategy

After years of preparing and implementing the EU General Data Protection Regulation, European policymakers are far from finished with broader digital regulation. The European Commission's ambitious digital strategy, including the proposed draft AI regulation, outlines how the landscape is still being moulded and that important work lies ahead. The IAPP reports this was the subject of an early-morning session on the final day of the IAPP Data Protection Congress 2021 in Brussels, Belgium.  In related news, EURACTIV reports that an internal report by a special committee of the EU Parliament outlines a desire by member states to make AI regulation less burdensome and more innovation-friendly.
