CJEU throws wrinkle into EU-UK adequacy talks

The Court of Justice of the European Union continues to make things interesting in the data protection world. First came the court's "Schrems II" decision last July, and this week, the CJEU issued a ruling that could spring a leak and potentially sink adequacy hopes. Negotiations toward an adequacy decision between the EU and U.K. have been shaky but ongoing as the end of the U.K.'s Brexit transition period draws near. The odds of an agreement narrowed Tuesday as the CJEU ruled to limit EU surveillance practices that use phone and internet data.
