Scotland set to pass biometrics code of practice in November

Scotland is nearing approval of the first statutory Code of Practice governing the use of biometric information. In June, Scottish biometrics commissioner Dr Brian Plastow said that the regulation covering the police and the criminal justice system's "acquisition, retention, use and destruction of biometric data." would be ready by Autumn. The Criminal Justice Committee has now signed off on the regulation, which could be finalised in November, providing no ministers object to any of its provisions in their meeting on 7 September.
