GPEN announce 2025 sweep to focus on protecting children's privacy
03/11/2025 | GPEN
The Global Privacy Enforcement Network has announced that more than thirty data protection authorities (DPAs) are conducting their 2025 privacy sweep this week. This year's sweep will focus on websites and mobile applications commonly used by children.
The regulators will examine whether these online services collect children's data, are transparent about their privacy practices, employ age-verification mechanisms, and use privacy-protective controls to limit data collection. The theme recognises that digital spaces can expose young people to risks such as online tracking, profiling, and inappropriate content if their best interests are not considered.
This year's sweep, which runs from 3 to 7 November 2025, is being coordinated by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, and the Office of the Data Protection Authority of Guernsey. A similar sweep was conducted in 2015. The compiled results will be published in the coming months.
