Google to sign EU GPAI Code of Practice

In a blog article, Google has announced that it will sign the European Union's voluntary General-Purpose AI (GPAI) Code of Practice, designed to help companies comply with the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act). Kent Walker, President of Global Affairs at Google and Alphabet, said that Google hopes the code will promote access to secure, high-quality AI tools by European citizens and businesses. However, he expressed concern that the AI Act and the code could impede Europe's AI development and deployment. Walker specifically highlighted that deviations from EU copyright law, slow approval processes, or requirements exposing trade secrets could hinder European model development and deployment, further impacting competitiveness within the region.
