Google expands digital wallet in UK, enhances privacy features

In a blog article on Tuesday, Google announced that UK residents will soon be able to create digital ID passes using their passports and store them securely within their Google Wallet. 

The company said that it is partnering with Rail Delivery Group to enable travellers to use these digital ID's to verify their eligibility for certain travel cards on the railcard.co.uk platform. However, Google is also seeking certification under the UK government's digital identity trust framework, which could potentially expand the use of Google Wallet ID passes to include age verification. To ensure speed and privacy in age verification, Google has clarified that it will integrate its Zero-Knowledge-Proof (ZKP) technology into Google Wallet. This technology prevents any link between a user's age and their identity, and this system will be accessible across various mobile devices, apps, and websites via Google's Digital Credential API.
