FPF calls for standardised privacy reporting metrics to benchmark AI models

A blog article by the Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) considers the case for establishing standardised benchmarks to assess privacy risks in frontier artificial intelligence (AI) model development.
As frontier AI systems gain greater autonomy and advanced capabilities, their processing of personal information increasingly challenges fundamental data protection principles, including data minimisation, anonymisation, and secure data sharing. While performance benchmarks routinely evaluate model capabilities, consistent mechanisms for measuring privacy outcomes remain absent. Introducing standard privacy benchmarks would give developers measurable targets to track over time, provide third-party evaluators with uniform assessment tools, and help deployers compare vendors and conduct risk evaluations.
