Study finds Palantir's FDP provides no noticeable improvement

New research by the Health Foundation think-tank has found no noticeable improvement in patient discharge performance among NHS trusts using Palantir's Federated Data Platform (FDP). The findings directly contradict NHS England's widely cited claim that hospitals using the Federated Data Platform experienced a 15% reduction in long-stay discharge delays.

According to the analysis, shared with the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR), the Health Foundation found no meaningful difference in discharge delays between trusts that adopted the tool and those that did not. The gradual performance improvement observed at trusts before deploying the software continued at the same rate afterwards.

While NHS England focused its claims on long-stay patients in hospital for over a week, the Health Foundation evaluated the share of beds occupied by any patient facing delayed discharge. An internal NHS England document revealed a 5% decline when applying the think-tank's methodology to long-stay data, while suggesting no overall impact when evaluating all patients with delayed discharges.
