Meta is testing a prototype of super-sensing smart glasses designed to record audio and capture photos every few seconds continuously. Wearers can use artificial intelligence (AI) to query what they saw or heard, or to recall daily events. Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg envisions these always-on wearables eventually replacing smartphones as the primary interface for AI tools.
However, the nascent technology has sparked internal debates within the company over data protection complaints, particularly concerning its invasive effects on bystanders. According to the reports, the company has not decided whether or not to activate the frame's notification LED during super-sensing use. Alternatively, Meta is exploring a system in which raw footage is deleted, and only the extracted metadata is uploaded to servers. Naturally, the company is also considering using the collected data to train its AI models.
