The US Federal Trade Commissioners voted 5-0 on a $1.5 million joint settlement order from the commission and the Department of Justice against fitness and diet service provider WW International (Weight Watchers) stemming from alleged Children's Online Privacy Protection Act violations. Along with the fine, in a first for the FTC, it ordered WW to destroy all associated personal information as well as the products that used or incorporated the information. The orders stem from data collection on children under 13 between 2014 to 2019. FTC Senior Attorney Lesley Fair wrote a blog post about the WW settlement order and compliance suggestions relating to health data and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
