On Wednesday, 24 April, the European Parliament voted 445 in favour, 142 against, and 39 abstentions to approve the adoption of the European Health Data Space (EHDS). The EHDS aims to improve healthcare across the EU by placing citizens at the centre of their healthcare and giving them full control over their data. In addition, the EHDS establishes a robust legal framework for the reuse of health data for research, innovation and public health purposes in compliance with EU rules on fundamental rights and cybersecurity.
In a separate press release, the European Commission welcomed the move and posted a factsheet on the EHDS providing answers to common questions.
