EU requires data protection guarantees before exchanging fingerprints

The European Parliament has voted against a draft implementing decision on the exchange of fingerprints with the UK. Instead, MEPs have asked the European Council to wait until the UK can guarantee "full reciprocity and data protection" along with an EU-UK framework to be agreed upon, before a decision about a fingerprint exchange with the UK can be reached.

An article in The Guardian last week revealed that a European committee says Britain should share the same amount of fingerprint data as member states.
