EU Parliament Committees adopt Digital Omnibus for AI negotiating position

18/03/2026 | European Parliament

The European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) and the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) voted 101 in favour, 9 against, and 8 abstentions to adopt a joint negotiating position on a Digital Omnibus simplification package for the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act)

The proposal includes postponing the activation of rules on certain high-risk AI systems to 2 December 2027, while introducing a new prohibited practice for AI systems used to generate non-consensual sexual and intimate content. MEPs are also in favour of allowing providers to process personal data to detect and correct biases in AI systems, provided robust safeguards are introduced.

The mandate will now head for a full Parliament vote expected on 26 March.
