European Commission publishes report on Law Enforcement Directive

The European Commission has released a report on the "application and functioning" of the EU Law Enforcement Directive. The report focuses on cross-border data transfers and transposition of the law by EU member states. The Commission reported that although transposition has been satisfactory, several outstanding issues remain, resulting in infringement proceedings against Spain in 2021 and Germany in April. However, the review also demonstrated positive impacts on data subject rights and increased awareness of data protection by competent authorities.
