European Commission formally extends UK adequacy until December

The European Commission has formally adopted its extension of the UK's two adequacy decisions, ensuring the free flow of data will continue until 27 December 2025.

The move was proposed in March to allow the UK time to finalise its new Data (Use and Access) Bill (DUA Bill), which was passed into law last week. The Commission is now assessing whether this new legal framework maintains an adequate level of protection for personal data. Based on this evaluation, a decision will be made on whether to renew the two adequacy decisions.
